Children and the Law

CHILDREN AND THE LAW

The events of the past few days leaves little doubt about Mr. Trump’s view of the value of families and children.  I can’t even imagine the mind set of Mr. Trump and his associates that led them down this path of separating immigrant children from their parents.  “Immoral” is the word used by most leaders. Unthinkable is a better term.   Mr. Sessions has all but destroyed his career by emphasizing “illegal immigration is against the law and we intend to enforce the law by separating children from their parents.”  This is a national disgrace similar to the way we interned Japanese citizens during World War II.

The irony here is only last week Mr. Trump and Mr. Guiliani were saying Mr. Trump is above the law or he ISthe law.  Mr. Sessions was silent on this point even though he is the Attorney General and should know the law.   Mr. Trump has had to eat crow on this issue and has issued an executive order cancelling the policy, (previously stating he had no such authority) but typically, he will not take the blame for this awful blunder, but will blame someone, probably Mr. Sessions.    Mr. Trump lies, his word is worthless and he cannot be trusted.  His attack on all immigrants is misplaced.  We do not need to travel this immigrant road again and again and again—and especially not with children.  Immigrants strengthen not weaken America.  We need to come to our senses in this matter.

  1. So many alarming parallels in history to these latest efforts by the Trump administration. Thank you for a clear, concise statement.
