Mr. Trump attacks Mr. Sessions

MR.TRUMP ATTACKS MR.SESSIONS

Mr. Trump has taken the Bully Pulpit to attack Mr. Sessions in a most unseemly fashion.  I presume he is doing this because Mr. Sessions did not step in and use his authority as head of the Justice Dept to prevent the conviction of 5 of Mr. Trumps close associates.  Mr. Trump always finds someone else to blame, often publicly, for any missteps in his administration.  He needs to look in the mirror.  I admire Mr. Sessions for standing firm in the face of a withering attack.

Every day I hear the words “witch hunt” from Mr. Trump.  About 2 months ago Karl Rove, a staunch republican, in his weekly article in the Wall Street Journal, asked “If Mr. Trump is innocent of these charges, why does he not drop the subject entirely?”  I suspect the real reason is that he is not innocent and in fact this is not a witch hunt.

The question of collusion with the Russians comes up virtually every day.  Collusion is defined as: “A secret agreement OR cooperation for an illegal OR deceitful purpose.”  We are not totally stupid.  Off shore bank accounts; millions changing hands; secret meetings both here and abroad with the Russians and now multiple convictions of very close associates of Mr. Trump.  Mr. Trump denies everything, but that is just another lie.  The whole thing smells rotten.  Public Broadcasting, PBS, reported about 2 weeks ago that Mr. Trump lied or misstated information 3200 times up to the beginning of this summer.  Mr. Cohen is going to tell us that Mr. Trump was intimately involved with every stage of the planning, and that there was in fact Collusion.

Hi All:  I apologize for the recent post.  One of my recipients sent me the following link which shows the blog was not 100% accurate.  I should have looked further into the matter.  Dick

Immigrants and discrimination

IMMIGRATION AND DISCRIMINATION

The story is always the same.  “Immigrants are criminals, rapists, robbers that are destroying out country.  They take OUR jobs and work for lower wages and destroy our standard of living.”  They take jobs (often back breaking jobs) that American workers don’t want and fill a great need.  Leaders will fan these flames of fear and distrust for their own political advantage as Mr. Trump has done.  Think of the Irish trying to escape the potato famine in the 1840’s, or the animosity between the Swedes and Norwegians in the upper Midwest, or the Italian immigrants to the east coast.  Think especially of the Chinese who came for the gold rush only to face discrimination for the next 90 years, including rulings from the Supreme Court.  Every one of us is an immigrant.  We have no business discriminating against any immigrant. Discrimination is the dark side of our country’s history.  Immigrants strengthen not weaken our country.  Anyone who really wants to come and join us in this country should be welcomed, regardless of origin.  There will never be a time when we should close our doors to immigrants.  We need everybody.

Separating Children and Parents

June 22, 2018
SEPARATING CHILDREN FROM THEIR PARENTS

There is NO JUSTIFICATION for forcefully separating innocent children from their innocent parents, no matter the law.  What has happened to our society and our sense of decency under this AWFUL man and his awful henchmen?  Our border crisis could be solved with proper diplomacy and cooperation with leaders south of the border.  However, when our president insults, and repeatedly insults, the leaders of these countries I can understand why they are not inclined to help us or cooperate with us in solving this or the next crisis.  He was elected to do a job not destroy us.  He is taking this country in the wrong direction.  He is the epitome of the ugly American.  We need to come to our senses here and rise up and put a stop to this charade.

Children and the Law

CHILDREN AND THE LAW

The events of the past few days leaves little doubt about Mr. Trump’s view of the value of families and children.  I can’t even imagine the mind set of Mr. Trump and his associates that led them down this path of separating immigrant children from their parents.  “Immoral” is the word used by most leaders. Unthinkable is a better term.   Mr. Sessions has all but destroyed his career by emphasizing “illegal immigration is against the law and we intend to enforce the law by separating children from their parents.”  This is a national disgrace similar to the way we interned Japanese citizens during World War II.

The irony here is only last week Mr. Trump and Mr. Guiliani were saying Mr. Trump is above the law or he ISthe law.  Mr. Sessions was silent on this point even though he is the Attorney General and should know the law.   Mr. Trump has had to eat crow on this issue and has issued an executive order cancelling the policy, (previously stating he had no such authority) but typically, he will not take the blame for this awful blunder, but will blame someone, probably Mr. Sessions.    Mr. Trump lies, his word is worthless and he cannot be trusted.  His attack on all immigrants is misplaced.  We do not need to travel this immigrant road again and again and again—and especially not with children.  Immigrants strengthen not weaken America.  We need to come to our senses in this matter.
